ServicedfirstasapilotinterventionwiththeWorldFoodProgramme,(WFP),onmovingtowardsmorelivelihoodssupportandcomplimentthehumanitarianeffortstotacklingfoodsecuritycrisis.Themainaimoftheprojectwastosupportcommunitiesinthetargetedareastoincreasefoodproduction,strengthenhouseholdaccesstofoodsecurityandincreasehouseholdfoodconsumption.Ittargetedwomenlivestockbreeders,largeruminantholderstoincreaseproductionofmilkandotherdairyproducts.Womenwereprovidedwiththeneededskillsandtrainingonproperbreedingmethods,propermethodsofproducingdairyproductsandaccesstomarketsforbuyinginputsandsellingtheirproducts,increasingtheircommunitypresenceandparticipation.Inaddition,theprojectprovidedshort-termjobopportunitiestomenandwomeninthetargetedareastoimprovehouseholdincomesthroughfoodforassets,(cashtransfers),onbuildingandrehabilitatingcommunityassetstorestorericulturalland,increasesoilandwaterailability,enhancefoodproductivity. Asaresultoftheproject1stphaseachievements,theprojecthasbeenscaledup,targetingnewsectorsandnewareastoimprovesmallholderproducers’livelihoodsinvitaleconomicsectorsandtosupporttheirrecoveryafteryearsofconflict.Theprojectdeliveredthebenefitstothewidercommunitybyincreasinghouseholdproduction,productivityandincome,andimprovingthequalityofproductsandservicesailabletothem.
